Q: Why should I hire someone else to develop my website when there are a lot of free, or really cheap, do-it-yourself programs offering pre-designed templates? A: Although using a “free” DIY program to create your new website may sound like a great way to cut costs, here are some facts to think about: a.) The companies that offer “free” site building software usually require their own choice of advertisements to be displayed on your pages, unless you pay a fee to take them off. b.) The pre-fabricated template designs limit your range of customization options. c.) You’re often charged an extra fee to sell goods or services from your site. d.) If you can even find the hours to put together an efficient website, ask yourself these questions: Do you have extra time to market & advertise your site online, or optimize it properly for major search engines? Do you know how? e.) Unless you purchase your own domain name (the title of your business or group in front of .com, .net, .org, etc.), you will have to use the “free” web design company’s title within your site’s address (URL). For example, instead of your URL being www.yourbusinessname.com, it would be www.yourbusinessname.theircompanytitle.com, or www.theircompanytitle.com/yourbusinessname. The first address, which uses only your biz or group’s name, presents a more professional image. Q: Do you offer payment plans? A: For our website & logo design services, 50% of your total fee is due up front, and the other 50% is due upon project completion. For our marketing & advertising services, offered to existing or newly designed websites, 100% of your total fee is due up front. |
